Selectica gets US patent for developing product configuration models

Pune: Selectica Configurators Inc, a leading Internet selling system provider, was awarded a US patent for its method of developing, storing and transmitting product configuration models. S S Sundararajan, VP, Selectica Configurators (India) Pvt Ltd, said that it is a rare occurrence that a patent is awarded in the software and IT industry and this affirms the uniqueness of our proprietary knowledge-based configuration technology in the marketplace. Selectica's patented technology enables product configuration object models to be converted into human-readable flat files and transported across divergent computer platforms, making possible the creation, modification and sharing of these models without the need for changes to the compiled to binary computer code. "As opposed to other systems that require models to be compiled and debugged before they can be used, the technology covered by this patent enable Selectica users to be up and running with new changes quickly," Sundararajan said. Sanjay Mittal, Selectica's co-founder, CTO and developer of the patented technology, says that in a rapidly changing e-business environment products, processes and selling rules can change several times each day and the ability to change models and quickly make those changes available to the enterprise. Selectica's Internet selling system allows companies to easily read, update, share, retrieve and transport complex product models across a company's entire value chain.
