Coimbatore to hold tea convention In an effort to increase the demand of South Indian teas in the domestic market, particularly upcountry regions, a two-day national convention on South Indian teas would be held here from November 3. This was announced by Hemant J Shah, chairman of the Tea Trade Association of Coimbatore, during its 18th annual general meeting held in Coimbatore last night. The convention would be a platform for interaction between buyers, tea producers and brokers in marketing South Indian tea in upcountry markets, in creating new buyers, he said. It would feature interaction between tea producers, buyers and brokers, besides tea tasting sessions. Eminent personalities connected with the industry would present papers on different aspects of South Indian teas, he said. Shah also said that work was underway to install a website for giving up to date information of tea market and the happenings at the Coimbatore tea auctions.MPs' worried over sugar price fall A Shiv Sena member in the Lok Sabha today expressed serious concern over the falling price of sugar and said it was adversely affecting the growers. Raising the issue during zero hour, Uttamrao Dhikale sought imposition of duty on sugar imported from Pakistan and Israel to check declining price of the commodity.
