Broadcasters seek entry into MSO business via tie-ups

Satellite television broadcasters are eyeing tieups with multisystem operators and signalproviders for a slice of the ground-level cable network business. Industryobserves said that it is a matter of time before broadcasters are compelledto tie up with multisystem operators, who control signal distribution viamany small-time outfits.

The logic: "Broadcasters don't want to keep negotiating channel rates withMSOs, who are mostly `pass through' outfits when it comes to collecting thesubscriber revenues". Say analysts while the broadcasters develop theprogrammes, it has to be routed through the MSOs to the subscribers.
