Calcutta: Free internet service provider Caltiger today launched a "hyper market" branded NoShutters.com, which will begin services in Calcutta and later expand nationwide on the back of the ISP's huge user base. Caltiger.com, which has a 26 per cent stake in NoShutters.com, is the country's largest ISP with a subscriber base of 200,000. The other promoter is Novalogix Solutions, which is offering management services, multimedia and virtual reality software solutions. According to the managing director of NoShutters.com, Gourang Jalan, the company expects good revenues, based on the captive audience of Caltiger users that it is getting from day one."We are eyeing a sale of Rs 30,000 per day from direct sales," Jalan said. All users of Caltiger will get NoShutters.com on their screens, and can order an array of branded products that will be delivered to their doorstep via Blue Dart. Jalan said that the prices will be kept low, even below market levels, as NoShutters.com will buy in bulk. In fact, all deliveries will be gift wrapped when delivered to the customers. The products will also come with freebies. "To cite a small example, a pair of jeans available at retail outlets for Rs 1000 will be sold by us for Rs 800," Jalan said.
The service will be initially available only in the area under Calcutta Metropolitan Development Authority, with delivery and logistics provided by courier outfit Blue Dart. For online transactions, NoShutters.com has tied up with HDFC Bank, which in turn has a tieup with Command, one of the two mobile phone services in Calcutta, for services using wireless application protocol. Transaction security will be provided byVerisign's encryption format for credit card payments. NoShutters.com will offer a range of payment options, from credit cards, to cash on delivery and demand drafts.
It also has a unique payment option - buyers at the site can use "Tickles", a concept launched recently by Ticklewit.com that is based on accumulation of points. The Caltiger spokesperson denied reports in a local daily to the effect that the promoters of Ticklewit have closed shop in Calcutta and are moving to Mumbai. They said Ticklewit has merely decided to open a marketing office in Mumbai. Jalan said a customer care desk will be open from 9am to 9pm, to assist customers if needed about product details.
