Kalyani Sharp to unveil home appliances range

Geeta Nair
Pune, July 26: Kalyani Sharp Ltd is planning to launch a range of home appliance products in the domestic market.

The company, which had so far focussed on the audio-visual segment with its CTVs, VCR/VCPs and audio products, is planning to introduce refrigerators, air-conditioners and vacuum cleaners.

The company's managing director N Iwata said that the company would become more aggressive by launching newer products. First off-the-shelf this September would be the `Monster' music component system with a sound output of 7,000 watts PMPO. Sharp has introduced this product worldwide and it will be the system with the highest output available in the Indian market. The Monster is also VCD compatible and comes with a three CD changer.

The focus on the home appliances segment is following the response the company received for its Sharp brand microwave ovens which was introduced in the Indian market some months ago. "The response has exceeded expectations," Iwata said. However, at this stage there are no plans to manufacture any of the home appliances in India. The microwave ovens for example are being sourced from Sharp's Bangkok facility. The other products will also be sourced from Sharp of Japan.
