Kalyani Sharp launches latest Internet Viewcam in India

Geeta Nair
Pune, July 26: Kalyani Sharp India Limited (KSIL) has launched its `VN-EZ1E Internet Viewcam', an MPEG-4 digital recorder for Internet video communication, in the Indian market. The Internet Viewcam captures moving and still pictures along with audio and using the high compression format drastically reduces the size of moving picture files which can be transmitted through the Internet and other networks or sent as e-mail attachments. Net companies, Internet cafes and corporates will be the customers for this product.

TV Ramaswawmy, divisional manager, Information System Group of KSIL, said the company would be tapping the clientele that the company has established in India through its information and automation products including LCD video projectors, DVDs, photocopiers and fax machines. "We have a leadership in the LCD projector business and we will target this segment for the Internet Viewcam," Ramaswamy said.

The product is priced at around Rs 32,000 and is being imported from Sharp. The moving pictures taken with the VN-EZ1E is stored on a smart card called SmartMedia which has capacities ranging from 4MB to 128MB and can take up to 60 minutes of moving picture and audio. This data can be easily transferred to a PC also. It is being considered ideal for Internet applications as the video streaming allows moving pictures to be played back as they are downloaded. Files transmitted using the advance streaming format are viewed using the Windows Media Player and does not need any additional software or data conversion.
