B4U buys telecast rights for Ghai - movies

Sudipto Dey
New Delhi, July 26: Satellite channel B4U has bought limited telecast rights for eight Subhash Ghai-movies, produced under the banner of Mukta Arts, for Rs 14 crore. This comes close on the heels of the sale of DVD rights of "Taal" for Rs 2 crore.

Addressing mediaperson in the capital, Mukta Arts managing director Subhash Ghai said this is one of the largest deals done in the country for telecast rights. The movies include Karz, Hero, Ram Lakhan, Saudagar, Khalnayak, Trimurti, Pardes and Taal.

The company plans to insure all its forthcoming films and other ventures including studio and training institute. Ghai's next film, Yaadein, starring Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor, has already been insured for Rs 14 crore. His earlier movie "Taal" was insured with United India Insurance for Rs 11 crore. "We will insure all the new films in the coming years to hedge risk of life, delays in project, accident, weather and other unforeseen events," Ghai said.

United India Insurance has recently come out with an insurance scheme for the film industry called Cine Mukta Policy in view of the first ever-insured film "Taal".

Speaking to eFE, Ghai said that his company is in talks with several international institutes and production houses for a technical tie-up for providing faculty to forthcoming training institutes being set up. Mukta Arts will be entering the international distribution market early next year to market Indian films and music abroad. For this purpose a separate company will be set up, Ghai said.

Ghai said his company will also strive to attract production work to India from Hollywood studios. Ghai was in Delhi to announce his company's Rs 100 crore initial public offer of 15,15,300 shares at a price of Rs 165 to raise Rs 25 crore and another Rs 75 crore through the book building route. The issue opens on July 28 and close on August 1.

He said the company may go for international tie-up for its portal venture. Without giving details, he said negotiations are currently on with several Indian international Infotech companies in this regard. On the e-commerce front plans are afoot to enter the business-to-business space, he added. A separate division will be set up to manage the company's IT foray.
