Two young boys had a dream: a brand of their own. Srijan, the brand to reckon with for salwar kameezes was created in 1986 by the dynamic, futuristic brothers Sanjeev and Tarun Maglani who read the fashion industry much in advance. Srijan has the credit of making every single piece unique in itself and every month Srijan comes out with two themes. These two themes are always very closely associated with approaching season and current fashion trends, says Tarun. This season, Srijan has unveiled its monsoon collection. ``First to come in the row is inlay work, the entire range is inspired by motifs from inlay carving (carvings on a wooden panel),'' says Tarun.
The patterns on the kurtas are intricate; be it geometrical or floral in peacock blue and rust colours. This will be followed with Italian motifs in the embroidery in August. ``We will use all colours that are in trend, and the colours of the August collection will be bright yellow and flowery peach. Every theme has two colours that are appropriate for the season and are also in vogue. The patterns on the kurtas are different but the kind of embroidery remains the same,'' explains Tarun. Srijan gets its own fabrics woven by villagers in Andhra Pradesh and they provide their livelihood by giving them work constantly. The entire collection is made of pure handloom cottons. The detailed process of dying of the thread to final selection after sampling is an in-house job done by Srijan. The brand is known for its long term durable clothes that do not fall out easily with fast changing fashions.
The three piece sets are priced at around Rs 1,500-2,000. In fact, Srijan has also entered the section of manufacturing co-ordinates. The three piece co-ordinate can be accessed between Rs 500-1, 200, from their retail outlets. The Srijan collection is available in major showrooms in all the metros and Pune, Hyderabad, Ahemdabad, Jaipur and Banglore. Besides these, the company products are available at over 150 outlets through out the country. The Srijan products are also being exported to New York, London and South Eastern countries. The garment line of Srijan is available at Shopper's Stop, Meena Baazar, Sheetal's and Amarson's in Mumbai; in Delhi it can be looked for at Shopper's Stop, Kalpana, BigJos and outlets of Meena Bazaar. Srijan is shortly opening its own out let in Noida. The company has already stepped in the e-com business. The range of the season can be browsed and ordered at Rediff.com.
