LCC Infotech to set up training centres in Indonesia

Sunil Mukhopadhyay
Calcutta: The Calcutta-based LCC Infotech Ltd will open its first training centre in Jakarta, Indonesia in the first week of September, according to its new managing director Kirti Lakhotia. The company has also plans to set up 1,100 training centres in the coming year of which 100 will be abroad.

"Initially there would be one hi-tech model centre in downtown Jakarta targeted to global operations and by the end of first year we have plans to open nine more centres in the southeast Asian country," she told eFE.

The company has floated a subsidiary, PT LCC Infotek with initial capital of US $1 million in Jakarta to take up operations in Indonesia. It has already acquired 7,000 sqft area for the first centre. The company's global operations are being taken care of by its subsidiary, LCC Infotech International based in Singapore. It is also in talks with private companies of South Africa and universities in Australia to provide higher-end IT training. "We expect to set up centres there within six months," Lakhotia said and added, "initially the centres will be owned by the company and later we will go for local franchise." The company has already set up a centre in Jeddah as a part of its planned foray into the West Asia.

In the last 12 months, LCC Infotech has added more than 100 training centres in India to meet its target of 750 centres. The 750th centre has been opened on July 3 at Malad in Mumbai. Besides training, the company will also be involved in procuring software development business for its STP units in Calcutta. At present, it is developing software for its clients in Russia and Singapore. "Russia is a good market for us, although return from investment is less. From USA, we get good returns, but competition there is very stiff," Lakhotia said. LCC Infotech has already bagged software development orders valued Rs 12 crore and expecting more orders.

For the current fiscal, the company expects a turnover of Rs 125 crore out of which Rs 100 crore will come from training and the remaining Rs 25 crore from software development. The figures for 2001-2002 are expected to be Rs 250 crore, Rs 200 crore and Rs 50 crore, respectively. The company board will meet on July 18 to finalise the first quarter results. Although Lakhotia declined to comment on the results, sources said turnover in first quarter will be more than 25 crore, while profit around 27-28 per cent of the turnover.
