New Delhi, July 6: Direct tax collections in the first quarter (April-June) of the current financial year has recorded a spectacular rise of 66.73 per cent over the same period last year.Total direct tax collection during the quarter amounted to Rs 10,712.05 crore as compared to Rs 6,424.81 crore during the same period last year.Announcing the tax collection figures here on Thursday, minister of state for finance (revenue) V Dhanajaya Kumar said that impressive growth in direct tax collection this year was a clear indication of the `revival of the industry'.
Corporate tax realisation upto June this fiscal stood at Rs 4,686.39 crore (Rs 2,670.64 crore) showing a growth of 75.48 per cent.Income tax collection witnessed an increase of 48.33 per cent by reaching Rs 5,950.77 crore (Rs 4,011.86 crore) during the period April-June, 2000.
In the month of June this year, corporate tax collection was Rs 4,610 crore (Rs 3,112.14 crore) and income tax realisation was Rs 1,981.53 crore (Rs 1,338.65 crore). Total direct tax collection in June grew by 49.97 per cent over the same month last year by reaching Rs 6,630.73 crore (Rs 4,421.48 crore).
On the indirect tax side, Kumar said that the figures were available for the period April-June 15 only and it would not be proper to assess the percentage increase on a quarter to quarter basis.
During the period April to June 15, customs collections touched Rs 9267.49 crore while excise collections were to the tune of Rs 11,326.01 crore.
Customs collections in the first 15 days of June this year was Rs 1,756.37 crore and excise duty realisation during the same period stood at Rs 2,354.09 crore.
