Subex unveils anti-fraud phone software

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
Bangalore: The Bangalore-based Subex Systems Ltd has developed a software, ranger, which provides a total telecom fraud solution based on an advanced intelligent technology that monitors and tracks all types of frauds in mobile and fixed telephony and even keeps a check on calls to or from `enemy' countries.

The software keeps a track on the aspects of rating, time, billing, subscriber profile and sim-card security in order to prevent any type of frauds leading to lower customer satisfaction or mistrust, the company's executive director, P J Alex, told PTI. He said the software could be attached to the switch at the exchange to monitor on the basis of subscriber profile matching. He said the main types of frauds pertain to subscription, prepaid system, internal, external and technical categories.

Based on profile matching, the software ensures any attempt to cheat customers could be prevented. Frauds like duplication of sim-cards in mobiles could be easily detected to deter any other user from misusing the rightful cell-phone owner's unit. In pre-paid systems, the software could prevent a violating user from crossing over or expanding his due time through loopholes on the system. Alex said in fixed telephony, internal or external misuse - which was common through tapping STD lines and communicating over someone else's line - could be prevented as the software constantly monitors the proceedings to avoid excess billing of the innocent subscriber.
