Essel plans Rs 3,000cr investment
The Zee group's holding company Essel Packaging has firmed up a Rs 3,000-crore investment plan to set up 100 multiplixes country-wide in the next five years. A wholly-owned subsidiary of Essel Packaging, E-Citi Entertainment, has been floated to carry out the project.Silveline Technologies to list on NYSE
With its debut on the New York Stock Exchange scheduled for Tuesday, Silverline Technologies is all set to be the first technology company from India to list on the bourse. The company will trade its American depositary shares under the ticker symbol `SLT'. Back home, on the BSE on Monday, the Silverline scrip closed at Rs 627.10, up Rs 54.20 over its previous close.
ITC corporate governance steps
Tobacco conglomerate ITC has unveiled its philosophy on corporate governance, backing it up with policy initiatives at the board level. According to the company's latest annual report, for the year to March 31, 2000, six committees have beenformed.
Global online advertising set to soar
Online advertising is expected to reach $28 billion by 2005, against just $4.3 billion last year, a study said on Monday. Jupiter Communications Inc, a leading authority on e-commerce and the Internet, said in the report that nearly 6 per cent of global advertising spend would be generated on the web within five years, driven in part by a rise in the world-wide online population to 800 million from 300 million now.
President gives assent to IT bill
President KR Narayanan has given assent to five legislatvie bills, including the Constitution (81st amendment) bill, information technology bill, and the major port trusts amendment bill. The President also gave his assent to the direct tax laws (miscellaneous) repeal bill and the cotton textiles cess (repeal) bill, a release said.
Vickers fails to get merger nod
Shareholders of VickersBallas Holdings on Monday voted against a proposal to merge with GK Goh Holdings that would havecreated south-east Asia's largest stockbroking firm. The merger proposal managed to secure only 69 per cent approval, against the 75 per cent required for it to proceed, at the closely contested Vickers extraordinary general meeting.
