Mumbai, June 16: Taj Air Caterers (TAC) has signed a contract for in-flight catering with Virgin Atlantic Airways. Virgin Atlantic Airways will start three services a week between London and Delhi in the summer of 2000 and plans to add three more later in the year, a release said. TAC is a subsidiary of Indian Hotels Company Ltd and had recently chosen as best overseas caterer for 1999 from among 26 companies world wide. The award was announced recently by Singapore Airlines.The selection was based on various parameters like passenger complaints and compliments, cabin crew reports, quality of food, passenger feedback and facilities provided by the catering unit and its upkeep.
TAC caters to 22 international and five domestic airlines and provides catering services to approximately 1,400 flights a week. It has operating units in Mumbai, New Delhi, Calcutta and Chennai. Its catering unit at Sahar Airport in Mumbai has been designed to international standards and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology for efficient and hygienic food production. The Taj group is also looking at starting new air catering units at the Bangalore, Cochin, Hyderabad and Trivandrum airports.
