Enron subsidiary signs gas supply pact with RCF

Suresh Nair
Mumbai, June 16: Enron Corporation on Friday announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary Metropolis Gas has signed a gas sale agreement with Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers (RCF).

Under the agreement, Metropolis Gas will supply one million tonne of liquified natural gas to RCF annually. The company currently has a gas sale agreement with Ispat energy for 0.20 million tonne per annum.

"The signing of the agreement marks an important milestone in Enron's gas marketing business in India. It also marks the availability of reliable, environment-friendly fuel alternative to industries in Maharashtra", Enron India chief executive officer Sanjay Bhatnagar said.

Under the 20-year agreement, deliveries will start as early as mid-2000, Enron said in a statement. Following the agreement, Enron has signed sale agreements for a total of 1.2 million tonne of gas.
