Siemens eyes 15% share in washing machine market

Chennai, June 16: Siemens Home Appliances, which announced the launch of its mid-segment front loading tumble-wash washing machine in the western and southern regions recently, is targeting a 15 per cent market share for the same in 2000. The company, which is known as BSH Home Appliances Pvt Ltd (a subsidiary of Bosch and Siemens Home Appliances GmBH), registered sales of Rs 20 crore last year and is targeting Rs 30 crore this year. The Siemens brand is well known in the premium segment of the market, in the refrigerator, dishwasher and washing machine categories.According to BSH Home Appliances managing director Vipul B Raval, the company has a 50 per cent share in the premium end of the washing machines market. About 24 per cent of all washing machines sold in the country come under the premium segment (those priced above Rs 25,000), while 29 per cent come under the mid-size segment. About 14 per cent come under the lower price segment. Though Siemens is a late entrant in the white goods market, the company has done thorough market research claimed Raval. ``The philosophy of the company is to study consumer requirements, perfect the back-end servicing and then approach the market''. Siemens is currently training service personnel and has consolidated its presence in the western and southern markets. For the front-end mid segment washing machine (priced slightly less than Rs20,000) the company plans to consolidate first before moving northwards.
