Choice Hospitality plans to set up 10 new hotels

Veeshal Bakshi
New Delhi, May 24: Choice Hospitality India, the master franchisee of the world's largest franchise company Choice Hotels International, plans to add about 10 new hotels to its existing 15 properties during the current financial year. This would double its number of rooms to 2,000.

The Indian company, which is promoted by Asian Hotels Ltd's managing director Sushil Gupta and Choice Hotels International, is also in the process of integrating its business with its parent company to facilitate booking of any Choice hotel accomodation across the globe through Choice Hospitality India.

Choice Hotels International has 5,000 hotels worldwide in its franchise system. The company holds 40 per cent equity in the Indian venture while Gupta holds the balance 60 per cent.

"We will become a call centre to book Choice hotels and handle reservation requests on-line. We want to offer our international advantage to Indian customers," Choice Hospitality's senior vice-president Sunil Mathur said.

Choice believes that there is a tremendous business potential in overseas bookings as a large number of Indians favour mid-priced hotels while travelling abroad.

Mathur said an India-specific website "choicehospitality.com" would also be launched within the 15 days to provide online reservations and confirmations on bookings made for 15 properties under the Choice umbrella in India.
