Mumbai, May 24: There are no big surprises in the latest JD Power satisfaction survey as last year's winner Honda Siel bagged the top honours along with Mitsubishi-Hindustan Motors, the manufacturer of the Lancer in India. For Tata Engineering, the manufacturer of swadeshi car Indica, the bad run continues as it has been voted last by JD Power Asia Pacific in terms of satisfaction at the time of vehicle delivery.
Maruti Udyog, the country's largest automobile maker, has also failed to push up its rating as it has been ranked seventh in the overall satisfaction index.
Mahindra & Mahindra, the other Indian auto major, however, improved its ratings considerably as it has been ranked fourth, while Ford India, which bounced back in the domestic car war with its "josh machine" Ikon, has been ranked third in the survey.
This year's winners - Honda Siel and Mitsubishi-Hindustan Motors - have scored highly in all the crucial parameters except its price evaluation, which the customers found `not too satisfying'. In fact, both the companies scored below industry average on the price front. Daewoo Motors, Hyundai Motors have bagged the fifth and the sixth slots, while General Motors India, Toyota Kirloskar, Hindustan motors, Fiat India and Tata Engineering were rated below the industry average scoring poorly in terms of both sales experience and price evaluation factors.
Senior Tata Engineering officials said that the company's bad run at the JD Power survey has been primarily due to the long waiting period for the Indica. "Even as the long waiting period meant there was great demand for the car, customers were naturally not satisfied with it," said a company official.
