Remote3D all set to tap US, Europe and Asean market

Kavitha Rajasekhar
Pune, May 24: Pune-based start-up Remote3D Technologies Pvt Limited is drawing up plans to tap the US, Europe and South-east Asian market for 3D modelling requirements over the Web.

The company is aiming at capturing a substantial chunk of the global 3D modelling segments especially in areas like industrial design, advertising, animation, toy design and manufacturing.

On the investment side Remote3D has raised seed stage funding to the tune of Rs 25 lakh from individual investors and is likely to receive $1 million in VC funding within the next few weeks.

The company, set up two months ago by two professionals hailing from IIT-Powai (who also won individual design awards from LG and Sony) operates on a `remote' business operation model wherein it receives basic sketches of the objects via e-mail which are then converted by the designers into virtual 3D models and then e-mailed back (in most cases within 12 hours).

``The focus of our operation is the actualisation of any product in a computerised environment thus making it possible for people to actually see how a product would look before being manufactured,'' the company's director Pankaj Sapkal said.

Incidentally, the company claims to be the only one which operates and take up projects remotely and currently has close to six pilot projects on hand. Sapkal told eFE that the company was looking at strategic alliances with manufacturing companies in the US for long-term projects and was currently in talks with a large toy manufacturer and industrial design houses in the US.

``The remote operation model gives us an opportunity to work on projects across the globe and also offer companies a cost effective solution for their modelling needs. We are aiming at tapping each sector including the automotive and construction segment especially with 2D to 3D conversions,'' Remote3D's other director Rahul Kaushik said.

On the technology front, the company used the most advanced 3D i-deas and alias -- modelling tools for surface and solid modelling respectively, Sapkal said.

As for other initiatives, Remote3D is currently beefing up its manpower base of 10 to 25 next month and close to 50 by year-end. The company was targeting revenues of approximately $1 million this year which was expected to grow exponentially to $5 million and $10 million in the next two years, he added.
