Mumbai, May 4: In a major move, Wintech Computers, the IT education andtraining institute has hiked its advertising budget by more than 70 percent. While the company earmarked a budget of Rs 12 crore in 1999-2000, itincreased it to Rs 42 crore in 2000-2001. According to its managing directorMurtaza Mithiani: ``The increase in the level of spending is largely due toour foray into the electronic media.''The company entered electronic television advertising for the first time inSeptember 1999 during the India-Pakistan Sahara Cup Cricket series. Thetelevision commercial showed a student having done a project at WintechComputers going abroad.
``Through the campaign, we sent the message across to the student communitythat your future is secure if you come to Wintech.'' The campaign was airedacross various channels. While the television commercial was developedin-house, the company has appointed Motivation advertising agency for thecreatives in print and outdoor which is largely text.
The company plans to unveil similar television campaigns this year too eventhough the details are not being revealed at this point of time. SinceWintech Computers is already into training software professionals, it ispublicising the company as offering threesome benefits: generating manpowerusing training, placing them in-house in Wintech Software Solutions for workexperience and then placing them abroad through Wintech Placements.
Apart from this, the company has a host of expansion work laid out for thecurrent year. It recently launched eight massive export-oriented units(EOUs) in different parts of the country with the potential manpowerstrength of 5,000 software professionals. Wintech plans to launch its ownportal shortly. There is also a plan to open offices in the US, Australia,Middle-East and other countries. Wintech International, which has been theumbrella organisation for marketing Wintech's entire range of servicesabroad, has been able to bag export orders.
Wintech Placements, which focusses on placing software professionals inIndia and abroad, has also brought in business.
For the purpose of computer training, the company already has 150 centresacross the country. It is expecting to increase it to 500 in the next oneyear by going to smaller towns and cities. At present, it has 10,000students undertaking different Internet and computer-related training. Withall this and more, the company is expecting a turnover of about Rs 1,000crore. Last year, the company made a turnover of Rs 85 crore.
