Ahmedabad, May 4: Even as the Centre has offered all possible central assistance to Gujarat to face severe drought conditions, Sanghi Industries setting up a 2.6 mtpa cement plant in Kutch district has agreed to provide 50 lakh litres per day (lpd) of water from its desalination plant to nearby villages.Reliance Petroleum Ltd (RPL) had already started distributing 16 lakh gpd of surplus water from its desalination plant meant for its 27 mtpa grassroot refinery complex at Jamnagar from Saturday. It is perhaps for the time that water from desalination plant was supplied for domestic use in the country. In case of RPL, it is matter of supplying water from its plant meant for the refinery already commissioned last year. Whereas, for Sanghi, it is like supplying water from the desalination plant while its cement project could not yet take off.
Giving this information to newspersons here, Gujarat's industries minister said the water supply by the Sanghis would begin next week. They might increase the supply later.
