Web Mela starts today in Mumbai
The India Internet Show, the country's first Web Mela gets on the road today at the Nehru Centre in Mumbai. About 43 exhibitors and close to 80 URLs are expected to participate in the show. About 50% of the participants are from metros other than Mumbai like Bangalore, Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad according to the organizers. Entry to the exhibition is free of charge. The exhibitors range from companies who have a presence in Internet spaces as diverse as sports to personal finance, education, travel, e-tailers, auctions, gaming and contesting to news.

Orange, Rediff launch WAP services
Orange and Rediff.com announced the launch of WAP services. While they claim a strategic alliance, the nature of the alliance is not clear. This is the first time in the country though that a cellular service provider is enabling customers to browse Internet content is the strictest sense of the word.

Thota appointed COO at Contests2win.com
Contests2win.com, India's first and leading contesting site on Thursday announced the appointment of Ranganath Thota as its chief operating officer, with effect from April 1,2000.Earlier to contests2win, Ranganath was with Pepsi Cola India as its general manager marketing, for its bottling operations in Western India.

Planetasia.com to offer content for WAP
Planetasia.com, will offer Internet solutions in the newly emerging wireless access space. The company will build and integrate Mobile Internet Solutions for content portals, e-commerce sites, mobile portals, and wirelesws operators targeting customers on the move. Planetasia.com is working with a leading Indian stock brokerage firm to build mobiel Internet access applications which can be integrated with their existing back end systems to allow their mobile customers to transact on their site, any time and from anywhere.

Spice Telecom crosses one lakh mark
Spice Telecom's subscriber base crossed the one lakh mark on Wednesday. With this Spice Telecom becomes the first among the operators in the category `B' circle and the second in the non-metro circle to reach the magical figure.
