Usha Group readies Rs 100cr blueprint for ISP business

New Delhi, May 4: The Usha Group is planning to invest Rs 100 crore in itsISP business. The company, which got the A licence to operate ISP servicesall over India, plans to launch its ISP services in June. It plans to offera complete range of 21 portals in the next 3-4 months. These will includenews oriented, women's, fashion, movies, career, auction, sports, travel,spiritualism, Indian cuisine and many other portals. We are aiming for avery interesting mix of portals, which will be hyper-linked to each other,says Vinay Rai, chairman, Information Technologies India Limited (ITIL).The company is focussing on setting up B2C transaction oriented portals,rather than information portals. This will include a shopping mall,provisions for booking tickets, buying products, etc., adds Vineet Rai,managing director, ITIL. According to Vineet Rai, while some of theseportals will be acquired, most of them will be developed in house. For thispurpose, the company had set up two portal development centres in Calcuttaand Pune, two months ago. It has also acquired some space in Hyderabad. Apart from this the company is also developing portals at its existingcentres in Delhi. Some of these portals are being developed in jointventures with content developers and for the others, people who had come upwith the portal ideas have been given a small stake in the portal and havebeen absorbed into the company. To begin with, the ISP services will beprovided in nine locations centred in north India, including Delhi, Bombay,Lucknow, Allahbad, Varanasi, and Kanpur, added Vineet Rai. Acquires medicaltranscription company: Meanwhile, in a another added imeptus to its ITventures, last month, Selectronics, an Usha Group company acquired a medicaltranscription company called Gordon Herbort, adds Vinay Rai. Veer Sagar, who was heading Gordon Herbort, has been appointed managingdirector of Selectronics. The company has annual revenues of Rs 6 crore andnearly 500 transcriptors. Setting up 100 Education centres: ITIL, which hasabout nine education centres operational right now is collaborating with IITto develop course-ware for high-end IT courses. The company plans to add 100additional centres, by the end of the year. It is going through thefranchisee route and has already reached an understanding with 10franchisees, said Vinay Rai. The company hopes to train 25,000 students peryear and will absorb the good students. "This will be our contribution to providing the 1 million softwaredevelopers that India needs in the next year," said Vinay Rai. ITIL gets SEICMM Level 4 certification: ITIL has obtained the Software EngineeringInstitute (SEI) Capability Maturity Model (CMM) Level 4 rating for itssoftware engineering process. This assessment is based on the guidelinesestablished by the SEI at Carnegie Melon University, USA. The level 4 ratinghas placed ITIL among the select 32 organizations in the software industry.KPMG carried out the assignment to rate the maturity level of ITIL softwareas per the CMM.
