Tillari irrigation project approved

New Delhi, April 10: The Union Government has cleared the Tillari irrigation project. The Rs 217-crore project, a joint venture between Maharashtra and Goa, envisages construction of a storage dam across river Tillari along with a power house with an installed capacity of 10 mw.

The project is expected to be completed by March 2002. It will help irrigate 23,654 hectare of land in the two states. The storage dam with a maximum height of 71 metres will have live storage capacity of 447 million cubic metre.

The 72-km-long left bank canal takes off from the storage dam irrigates 6,676 hectare along the left bank in Maharashtra. In Goa, 16,978 hectares of land will be irrigated. The project also supplies 57.3 million cubic metre of water annually to Goa for industrial and domestic use.

The cost per hectare of annual irrigation is Rs 57,903.
