New Delhi, March 20: US President Bill Clinton, who is fond of Indian food, will be treated with rich royal Indian cusine at the majestic Ashoka Hotel tomorrow when he comes for the all important official luncheon hosted by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The five-course Indian cusine, including Tandoori and Mughlai curries and three special desserts have been meticulously selected by Chief Chef of the Hotel JM Choudhary and his men.
Chef Sailesh Bisht, who specialises in Indian cusines, is upbeat as the Ministry of External Affairs had first decided to throw a Continental Lunch for Clinton but later decided on Indian Cusine.
The Ashoka Hotel Management, which was informed about the hosting of the official luncheon only 10 days back, has given the hotel premises a good facelift to make the all important luncheon meeting a memorable one for the visiting dignitary.
Though Clinton will be visiting only the Convention Centre -- where the lunch will be hosted -- the entire hotel has been dressed up for the occasion.
New Belgium carpets have been laid, old Chandeliers have been replaced with imported ones and a new red carpet has been rolled down the spiral ramp leading to the Convention Hall. To set the mood, the Convention Hall which is normally used to host conferences, has been re-decorated in true Indian style.
Beautiful paintings, depicting the country's rich cultural heritage, mounted on the walls add colour to the perfect Indian setting in the Convention Hall. The sit-down silver service meal at the Convention Hall is being done in hues of pink and white.
Fifteen tables have been laid out for the 150 select guests with Clinton and Vajpayee occupying centrestage.
Though the US President is likely to be inside the Convention Hall for most of the time, a special "hold up" room has been built specially for him and for the select White House staff adjacent to the Convention Hall.
If Clinton wants to rest for a while or to have a personal discussion with his White House staff, the "hold up" room has all facilities, including communication network.
Keeping in view the security and safety requirements, a special room has been kept for the US security officials accompanying Clinton.
Though Clinton is likely to walk up the spiral ramp to the Convention Hall, a lift has been kept ready.
The US security team has already surveyed the Hotel and issued security clearance tags to the hotel staff, who will be on duty tomorrow.
Although it is not new for the Ashoka Hotel staff to host official lunch or dinner for the visiting dignitaries to the country, they are not taking any chance and were seen working overtime to offer Clinton more than the royal food.
