MUMBAI, MARCH 20: Fortune 500 company Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) is all set to unveil the service station of the future, Top Gear. The retail outlet, due to be formally inaugurated shortly, is IOC's first company-owned/operated site which has been given a total facelift.Situated in south Mumbai's Warden Road, the outlet was renovated in a record three months by Larsen & Toubro. Gone is the staid look, which has been replaced by a swanky fuel station, accompanied by a host of value-added services keeping in mind the comforts and needs of the busy working class.
Top Gear just does not sell fuel. It also offers a 24-hour ATM facility of HSBC, and a cyber cafe where Asterix Informatix has been the think tank. This is not all. A shopping centre - Convenio - managed by Akbarallys has a range of groceries, gifts, fast food, personal- and health-care products for the customer.
IOC has also taken into consideration other basic needs like provision of a round-the-clock tele-assistance, which, literally, has all the solutions to vehicle-related problems. These include information on insurance, towing help, ambulance service, etc. The number that needs to be dialled from this help desk is 363 0573, which gives any consumer all information he needs.
Top Gear has also made room for a customer lounge, where one can take a break while the car is being refuelled or serviced. A music video has been installed to act as the perfect "de-stresser", and one side of the lounge has an art gallery where paintings by potential artists are up for sale.
An information kiosk, with a touch screen, has everything on use of cars, tourist destinations, emergency services, and what have you. This is not confined to English alone, and it also has a Hindi option. The kiosk gives an array of information on IOC too for those keen on checking out what the company is all about.
Top Gear has an exclusive Servo lubes shop, along with other basic accessories for the car. A tie-up has been forged with Turtle of the US, which has allowed display and sale of its world-famous wax cleaner.
Officials say this could fructify into a closer alliance in the days to come, which, in that case, will be a full-fledged joint venture.
For the first time in India, a state-of-the-art car wash sourced from Karcher of Germany has been installed at this outlet, where the entire clean-up process is done in barely seven minutes. The service automatically vacuums, shampoos, and polishes the car - all for a price, of course. This again is a round-the clock service. Vehicles can also be serviced overnight between 8 pm and 8 am, which does away with the usual problem of waiting for a full day before being able to drive the car back home.
Fuelling the vehicle has also been given a warm and casual approach at Top Gear. The company's smart-card facility does away with the cumbersome problem of carrying wads of notes. The outlet also accepts credit cards, and has a running credit account for regular customers. IOC keeps track of expenditure made by different people at this outlet to be able to award them bonus points and gifts.
Top Gear offers other facilities, like a computerised engine analyser and wheel aligner, digital air inflator with auto cut-off, comprehensive engine tune-up, and quick lube change. The associates for these equipment are big names in the world of business.
