Excise hike may push up Dabur India's Real prices

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
New Delhi, March 7: Dabur India said a considerable price hike in its `Real' packaged fruit juices is imminent after an almost 100 per cent increase in excise to 16 per cent has been proposed in the Union Budget for 2000-01."Excise has almost been doubled. It will not be possible for us to absorb this kind of cost increase, and a price hike is imminent," chief executive officer (CEO) of Dabur Foods Amit Burman told PTI. While he declined to divulge the exact price increase, saying the details were stil being worked out, Burman said the new excise structure was also likely to affect Dabur Foods' growth targets this year since manufacturing costs would go up significantly. "We have grown at 100 per cent in 1999-2000 and hope to continue this trend but the duty hike will make it difficult," Burman said.
