GTN Textiles to set up Rs 20-crore fabric plant

Sanjay Sardana
New Delhi, March 7: The Hyderabad-based GTN Textiles Ltd is setting up a Rs 20 crore fabric processing plant to take up fabric mercerisation. The proposed unit with an installed capacity of 5 tonnes per day (1,500 tonnes per annum) is expected to be fully operational by January, next year. The proposed unit will be through internal accruals and a loan under the textile upgradation fund (TUF).

The unit in its first year of operation is expected to yield an additional revenue of Rs 16 to Rs 18 crore with a cash profit of close to Rs 4 crore, GTN Textiles managing director MK Patodia, said. GTN Textiles, the only company in India to manufacture mercerised fabric, is currently producing the product at its unit near Shadnagar. GTN is involved in manufacturing 100 per cent cotton yarns, processed yarns and knitted and woven fabrics through its four processing plants apart from a garment making unit.

Apart from the processing unit, the company has plans to expand its mercerised cotton offering in branded fabrics to trousers, socks and cotton jackets. These products will be made available in exclusive limited edition designs in both knits and woven segments through its own chain of stores. Cotsyle is a high quality yarn with fibre specific brand and with the given lustre, it is a high quality product aimed at the niche market, said Patodia.GTN is aiming to become the leading domestic manufacturer and distributor of high-end mercerised cotton apparel. Today, the company's four processing plants together have an installed capacity of 1.4 lakh spindles capable of spinning 12,000 tonnes of yarn per annum. Its apparel making unit is capable of producing 1.2 million garments per year. The company has been making apparels such as shirts and T-shirts for some of the top brands in the world such as Cutter & Buck, Yves Saint Laurent and AM Player among others.

Perfect Knitters, a sister concern of GTN Textiles group owns the `Cotstyle' brand. Over the next few months, it has plans to have 6 to 8 more Cotsyle showrooms across the country.
