Silk exports up 17% in first nine months

BANGALORE, FEBRUARY 22: Silk exports grew by 17 per cent during the first nine months of the current fiscal with the exports crossing the Rs 1,000 crore mark. Between April and December last year, the country exported Rs 1,077.62 crore worth silk as against Rs 921.10 crores realised during the same period previous year. In dollar terms the increase was 13.5 per cent with the country earning $249.12 million as against $219.42 million in the first nine months of 1998-99.According to export figures released by the Central Silk Board here, export of carpets rose by 40.8 per cent in quantity and 21.4 per cent in value during the first nine months.
