New Delhi, Feb 22: The Austrian National Tourist Office is trying for a foot-hold in the Indian tourism market by wooing Bollywood film-makers to shoot in Austria.``We have woken-up slightly late to Bollywood's influence on tourism, but now we are targeting this segment,'' said Austrian National Tourist Board official Christina Mukharji at a press conference in the capital.``After a visit of Indian film makers last year, a number of promising Hindi films have been shot in Austria,'' she added.
Among them are the already released `Mast' produced by Ramgopal Verma. Other projects are `Chal Mere Bhai' starring Salman Khan, Karishma Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt and `Raju Chacha' directed by Ajay Devgan and starring Ajay Devgan, Kajol and Rishi Kapoor.
Another Ajay Devgan starrer `Mehbooba,' co-starring Manisha Koirala and Sanjay Dutt has also been shot in Austria.
Austria is also positioning itself as a `must-see destination' for Indian tourists by increasing the number of nights in Austria in Europe programmes along with creating Austria-only packages.
Meanwhile, Austrian Airlines plans to increase its frequency to India to five times a week by October this year. The airline currently flies thrice weekly between Vienna and New Delhi.
``Austrian Airlines has just launched a third frequency to India in February, and we now have permission to go up to five. We are very confident about this route,'' said Austrian Airlines country manager Robert Stainoch.
He also announced the launch of the services of Austrian Holidays, the tour operator of the Austrian Airlines Group, in India. The Holidays brand will offer a range of packages to Indian tourists for travel in Austria and the rest of Europe.
Austrian Airlines will induct its fourth frequency in May 2000 and another one in October. The airline has deployed the Airbus A 330 aircraft for the latest New Delhi-Vienna flight introduced this month.
The A 330 is equipped with electronically controlled sleeper seats in business class and personal video and satellite phones on every seat in both business and economy class.
``For the other frequencies also we will use the Airbus A 330,'' added Stainoch.
Austrian Airlines is joining the Star Alliance in March this year.
The alliance includes Lufthansa, United Airlines, SAS, Thai Airways and Air Canada as member airlines with a combined fleet of 2000 aircraft.
