FEBRUARY 3: Union minister for cultural affairs Ananth Kumar on Thursday assumed additional charge of the tourism ministry which was vacated by Uma Bharti following her decision to resign from the Union cabinet.According to an official release, Kumar hoped his appointment would spur tourism since culture and tourism were related fields. "Combining of culture with tourism will promote tourism in a real sense as tourism includes an experiencing of India's art, music and cultural heritage,'' he said."Besides 2.47 million foreign tourists, 167 million people criss-cross the country every year. These domestic tourists are basically cultural tourists," he said.
