NEW DELHI, FEBRUARY 4: The Delhi high court has issued notices to Coca-Cola Corporation Inc, the Centre and Delhi Government on a plea seeking cancellation of licence of Coca-Cola and seizure of its stocks in the capital as the petitioner alleged he had found a ``dead lizard'' in a sealed bottle over two years ago.Besides the Coca-Cola and Delhi Government, a division bench comprising Chief Justice SN Variava and Justice Cyriac Joseph issued notices to Union ministries of industry and health, Delhi Bottling Company, local distributor Jor Bagh Distributors Ltd and deputy commissioner health department of city zone, on Wednesday, petitioner's counsel Asit Kumar Roy said in a statement on Friday.
Roy said the court has directed all the respondents to file replies by March 16, the next date of hearing.
Petitioner Harbhajan Singh in a civil writ had alleged he found the ``dead lizard'' in a sealed bottle of Coca-Cola on May 26, 1997, and immediately reported the matter to the distributor, shopkeeper, the bottling company and the original Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta (US).
The matter was time and again reported to the Government for necessary action, ``but nobody has come to investigate the matter or take any action,'' the petitioner alleged. However, Coca-Cola India said in a statement ``the matter pertains to 1997, wherein the concerned person had been met. He was, however, unwilling to either show the bottle or substantiate his claim.''
The company statement also said complainant had approached the Delhi high court in 1998 and ``to our understanding, the writ petition was dismissed, with liberty to approach the court again.''
