Oil price protesters target refiners
FEBRUARY 4: Philippine police fired water cannon on Friday to disperse demonstrators who had been throwing motor oil and paint at oil company offices to protest against higher fuel prices. Police used water cannon to break up the protesters as they marched on the offices of oil refiner Caltex (Philippines) Inc.The demonstrators, carrying banners saying "Roll back oilprices", earlier failed to break through police barricades in front of the offices of Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp, but managed to padlock the headquarters of Petron Corp, the country's largest oil refiner, before police arrived. -- (Reuters & Agencies) Copyright © 2000 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
