Garment fair in Mumbai
FEBRUARY 4: The 38th National Garment fair will be held at Centaur Hotel, Juhu, in North West Mumbai from February 15. The three-day fair, organised by the clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI), will be participated by dealers from all over the country to make their selections for the coming spring/summer season. Shantibhai Kubadia, Chairman of the fair sub committee informed that the CMAI has booked total 80 rooms in the hotel and over 60 participants were confirmed their presence in the fair.Meanwhile CMAI president Premal Udani stated that as the imported goods are finding their way in the Indian market, the domestic manufacauturers are gradually being phased out since they can not not withstand the competition. The CMAI has actively pleaded with the government for specific import duties, but regretably so far nothing has happened. The situation will become more alarming the next two-three years and the entire landscape of the garment industry will change. This will definitely be against the interest of the domestic garment manufacturers, Udani added. Copyright © 2000 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
