DELHI, FEBRUARY 4: A mixed trend prevailed at the Delhi grains and pulses market on Friday. The FCI has been allowed to sell 50 lakh tonnes wheat in the open market as against 40 lakh tonnes, wheat dara prices held steady at Rs 690-700 a quintal. About 23 lakh tonnes wheat had already been sold by the FCI and inflow of new wheat in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat was also reported. Barley edged up by Rs 10 at Rs 750-800 a quintal on good demand from beer-malt plants of Gurgaon and Rajasthan while on stockists selling, oats slipped by Rs 10-20 at Rs 710-780 a quintal.Among pulses, gram Rajasthani edged up by Rs 10 at Rs 1310 a quintal on reports of poor crop and Rajasthani arhar also firmed up by Rs 15-20 at Rs 1475-1525 a quintal. On inflow of 45 containers of Reshmi lobia in Mumbai, its prices here, fell by Rs 50-75 at Rs 1900-1975 a quintal and red lobia and red rajmash also fell sharply by Rs 25-50 a quintal.
Sesame oil drifts lower
On consistent offerings by the importers coupled with slack demand from upcountry millers, sesame and raw palm oils prices drifted lower by Rs 20-50 a quintal. As compared to Monday, crude palm oil prices tumbled down by Rs 100 at Rs 1800 and sesame oil crashed Rs 200 at Rs 2800 a quintal.Rice bran DOC, on selling pressure by the millers, plummeted from Rs 2050-2250 to Rs 1975-2075 a quintal.
Sugar recovers
Free-sale sugar quota for Maharashtra millers was reduced by about 13,500 tonnes to 2.91 lakh tonnes coupled with firm Mumbai advices, mill delivery sugar prices recovered by Rs 7-10 a quintal.
Mawana sugar was traded at Rs 1410, Modi at Rs 1383-1390, Douralla Rs 1375, Ram-Laxman and Bijnore at Rs 1350 a quintal.
Cloves dip
Cloves prices in Indonesia in the past few days climbed up from $4100 to $5000 a tonne, but on profit-taking selling by the stockists, its prices here dipped by Rs 20 at Rs 250 a kg. It is pertinent to mention here that in the past three weeks, cloves recorded a sharp spurt of Rs 100 a kg.Cardamom small suffered a setback on weak south advices.
Among dry fruits, Indian kishmish Golden slided down by Rs 300-400 at Rs 2000-3400 per 40 kg in the expectations of new crop kishmish shortly. Inferior green quality kishmish also suffered a sharp fall of Rs 200 at Rs 3200 per 40 kg and copra also showed a declining tendency.
Gold sovereign moves up
Both the precious metals, silver and gold, in the Delhi bullion market recorded a sharp rise on Friday on overseas advices.
In the absence of sale by Russia coupled with strong industrial demand, platinum and palladium prices touched a record level of $502 an ounce, consequently, gold biscuit and standard mint gold flared up by Rs 45 at Rs 4515 and Rs 4525 per 10 gram, respectively. In sympathy with palladium, gold in London edged up $3 to $288 an ounce. Gold sovereign also moved up by Rs 25 at Rs 3800-3850 per 8 gram.
In sympathy with platinum, New York silver future moved up from 520 cents to 526 cents an ounce, consequently, spot silver .999 fineness shot up from Rs 7940 to Rs 7980 a kg and silver weekly delivery, on speculative buying flared up by Rs 40 at Rs 7990 a kg. Arrival of imported silver on Thursday hovered around 2000-3000 a kg.
Silver coins remained unchanged at Rs 11,000-11,200 per 100 pieces.Mumbai: Gold rose further smartly on the bullion market here on Friday in line with firm price trend in the Asian markets and good local demand. However, silver turned weak on poor industrial support amidst good arrivals.
Standard gold resumed firm at Rs 4540 and ended at Rs 4530, showing a smart rise of Rs 30 over the last close of Rs 4500. 22-carat gold was nominally quoted higher at Rs 4190 as against the previous level of Rs 4160 and ten-tola gold bar (.999 purity) shot up by Rs 400 to Rs 53,100 from Rs 52,700.
In Hong Kong, gold rallied to $287.50-288 per ounce from the previous close of $285 an ounce, dealers said.
Ready silver (.999 fineness), after a steady start at Rs 8160, lost support and declined to close at Rs 8145, showing a fresh fall of Rs 15 over the last close of Rs 8160. Raw silver (.916 fineness) and tenderable silver also declined by a similar margin to settle at Rs 8020 and Rs 8150, respectively from the previous day's close of Rs 8035 and Rs 8165.
Mentha flake falls
Mentha oil, flake and bold fell further by Rs 10 to Rs 390, Rs 495 and Rs 530 per kg as local as well as upcountry demand dipped. Thymol also slipped by Rs 5 per kg.
