Marubeni plans foray into power T&D, port
FEBRUARY 1: Japanese multinational Marubeni Corporation on Tuesday said it was planning to make investments in the power distribution and port sectors. "We are awaiting a clear policy from the government for making investments in these sectors besides plans to invest in more electric generating projects," vice-chairman Hiroshi Matsumura told PTI.The company has so far made a total investment of $50 million in the country and investments for other projects would depend upon its feasibility and viability, Matsumura said. Stating that three of its power projects are in various stages of completion, he said that the company would be able to add a total capacity of 1200mw once these projects were commissioned. Marubeni is developing a 330mw natural gas fuelled combined thermal generating project in Tamil Nadu along with the Reddy group, a 520mw coal-burning thermal generating project in Andhra Pradesh with BPL and a 350mw integrated gassification combined cycle project in Haryana along with Indian Oil Corporation, he said.
