C-DAC launches advanced version of `Leap 2000'

NEW DELHI, JANUARY 31: Pune-based Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) on Monday launched an advanced and more user-friendly version of its Indian language office automation software-Leap 2000- that helps in creating text and web publishing in Indian languages.

"The new product allows users to exchange e-mails and fax more easily than is possible now in 12 Indian languages. The built-in software interface facilitates users to create their own web pages in local languages," R K Arora, executive director, C-DAC said here.

The software, priced at Rs 12,500 and released at the Elitex-2000 show organised by the ministry of information technology here, is aimed at government, corporates, and internet start-ups, Arora said. The software supports Assamese, Bengali, Devnagri, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi and English among others, Chandrashekhar Raje, who is with C-DAC's business division, said.

"The software which has the HTML native format, which means it helps users create web pages more easily. In addition, the facility of hyperlink also helps linking e-mail addresses, web pages and websites in a leap document," he said. The product houses an in-built word processor and provides a complete solution for office functions which support multiple document at the same time, he said.
