Zenith Computers likely to garner Rs 100 crore from sale of `infotainer'

Mumbai, Januaryy 25: Zenith Computers Ltd is planning to garner a sales revenue of Rs 100 crore from sales of the newly unveiled `Infotainer' during the current fiscal.

The Infotainer offers facilities including computing, internet/web browsing, multimedia CD, audio/video CD, television channels and home security system. The company had posted a turnover of over Rs 200 crore in 1998-99.

The product, for the first time in the world as claimed by Zenith officials, was developed by Zenith research and development department. Targeted at the domestic home segment, the product is priced at Rs 49,900.

Unveiling the product here on Tuesday, Zenith Computers chairman and managing director Raj Saraf said the company was planning to bring down the price of the product by Rs 8,000 by assembling some other products including Intel Celeron processors. Presently, Zenith uses Intel Pentium III and sources colour monitors from Samsung.

Saraf said the company was aiming to achieve the numero uno position in the domestic PC market during the current fiscal. According to an IDC data, Zenith currently enjoys the number two position with a marketshare of 6.8 per cent, just behind HCL (8 per cent), while Compaq has a 6.7 per cent marketshare.

Zenith Infotech to list shares
Zenith Infotech Ltd, a part of the Zenith group, is planning to list its shares in the first-week of February. Zenith Infotech went public few weeks ago with a maiden public issue with a huge premium.

The recently concluded IPO of Zenith was 20 times oversubscribed. Zenith Infotech develops Internet-based software products and focuses on customised software turnkey projects in the US and Europe.
