LIC going in for MAN for policy holders

VK Chakravarti
Ahmedabad, January 25: Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) has decided to introduce Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) system in Ahmedabad, Pune, Hyderabad and Calcutta, enabling policy holders to pay their premium or get status report from any of the LIC branches in that city.

According to LIC zonal manager (west) NC Sharma, all the 30 LIC branches in Ahmedabad are scheduled to be covered by MAN in a fortnight and the 33 branches in Pune by February 29. Hyderabad and Calcutta would be taken up next.

MAN was commissioned in Mumbai to connect all its 74 branches in November 1997 with over 10,000 transactions being carried out over the network daily. It has been subsequently installed in Chennai, Delhi and Bangalore.

Talking to newspersons in connection with steps initiated to take on competition from new players in the post-IRDA regime, Sharma said the MAN would also allow the policy holders to submit value quotation or loan quotations.

Similarly, he said, the Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS), already installed in Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi and Bangalore, would be extended to 20 other major cities during the current year, covering major state capitals and cities with over one-million population.
