Edible oils refinery
JANUARY 25: The country's leading edible oils importer, Adani Wilmar Ltd, said on Tuesday it expects to open the country's largest refinery, with daily capacity of 600 tonnes, by June. Adani Wilmar, an equal joint venture between India's Adani Exports Ltd and Singapore's Wilmar Trading Pte Ltd, is setting up a refinery and a seed crushing plant at Mundra in the western state of Gujarat with a total investment of Rs 1.5 billion ($34.43 million). "The refinery will start operations by end of May or beginning of June but the seed crushing plant will take sometime," chairman Gautam Adani told in an interview. The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), a cooperative, owns the biggest refinery with a capacity of 250 tonnes per day. "We will be able to save on the import duty by bringing crude oil and refining it in India," he said. Copyright © 2000 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
