Hyderabad, Jan 24: Philips India is likely to enter into the hitherto unexplored solid state audio player market later this year with products capable of downloading MP3 files from internet."We have the full range of solutions for the purpose, but will like to keep the timing and strategy for the introduction of the products in India under wraps," said Probir Mukherjee, business group head, CTV and Video, Philips India.
Philips Electronics had announced in August last that it would be introducing MP3 solid state products in the first quarter of 2000 to meet the growing demand for downloading music from internet onto portable devices. The product comes with a removable flash memory card capable of playing up to one hour of music, the company has said.
The lead indicator for the potential for such internet-related products in India are the three million Net users in the country. The figure augurs well for Philips as it already commands a 70 per cent market share for portable CD systems here, Mukherjeesaid.
