JANUARY 22: The hospital-on-wheels, Lifeline Express, would be stationed at Canning in South 24-Parganas district from January 27 onwards, and would provide on-the-spot diagnostic medical and surgical treatment to 2,000 patients free of charge.Coming to West Bengal for the second time, the first being Memari in Burdwan district, the mobile hospital would treat the poor and needy patients of Sunderbans, the initial screening of which had been completed by public health centre doctors, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) eastern region Chairman F A Vandrevala, the co-sponsor of the project with Tata Council for Community Initiatives, said in a statement recently.
Since its launch in July 1991, Lifeline Express has treated more than 2.5 lakh people, and conducted a 10,006 surgeries in polio, 11,868 surgeries in cataract, and 75 minor plastic surgeries, Vandrevala said.
During its stay till March 4, the mobile hospital would also provide lodging and boarding facilities free of cost before dischargingthe patients.
