New vessel to be acquired
JANUARY 16: The Centre has given clearance for acquisition of a Rs 130-crore all weather passenger-cum-cargo vessel to be operated between Lakshadweep and the mainland, Lok Sabha deputy Speaker PM Sayeed, who represents the island, said in New Delhi on Sunday. The fully air-conditioned vessel with a capacity of about 700 passengers and 100 tonne of cargo will be an "Id gift" to Lakshadweep, Sayeed said.
