Bertelsmann seen eyeing Sony Music 

 
JANUARY 16: Germany's Bertelsmann AG was reported at the weekend to be considering the purchase of Sony Corp's Sony Music or EMI Group. The company did not confirm a report in Der Spiegel magazine that said Bertelsmann was eyeing Sony Music or Britain's EMI.

Der Spiegel quoted Bertelsmann chief executive Thomas Middelhoff as saying his firm wanted to become number one in the music business this year.
