Coal output up in Nov at 25.60mt
Coal production in November, 1999, touched 25.60 m tonne against 24.88 m tonne in the corresponding period last year registering an increase of 0.72 million tonnes. Coal offtake in the month was 25.60 million tonne which was 1.23 m tonne more than the offtake in November '98. The closing stock of coal in November stood at 17.65 million tonne which was slightly less than the closing stock in the corresponding period last year which was 17.87 million tonne. the figures released by the ministry of mines and minerals are provisional and the exact figures will be arrived at after verifying the stock in various parts of the country.Move on consignment removal time
Railways have reduced the free-time for removal of consignments from the railway goods sheds from the existing 24 hours to 12 working hours. This has been done to maximise the productivity of the goods sheds as timely removal of unload consignments enables early placement of the loaded ones and also to deal efficiently with the increasing goods traffic. This step would also enhance the productivity of the railways rolling stock. Besides, the labourers and road hauliers will also have a chance to have more income as they will be dealing with increased volume of the goods traffic.
DCA settles 249 complaints
The investors protection cell in the department of company affairs (DCA) has settled 249 investors complaints in November this year. In addition, a high- powered committee to draft a legislation for formation and conversion of cooperative business into companies was constituted during the month, an official statement said on Friday. Other important decision taken in November were payment of interest on share capital by Tirupur Area Development Corporation of Tamil Nadu for the first time, it said.
Bhel agreement for electrodes
An agreement has been signed between Bhel's Welding Research Institute (WRI) and Standard Welds Private Ltd, Patna, for the transfer of technical know-how for the manufacture of E6013 electrodes. According to Bhel sources on Friday, V K Gopinath, general manager, in-charge, Bhel, Tiruchirapalli, and Gurudayal Singh of the Standard Welds Private signed the agreement. WRI has so far entered into nine technical know-how transfer agreements for the manufacture of various types of welding consumables and devices.
