Western Industries to diversify into software sector

Hyderabad, Dec 24: Veterinary drug manufacturer Western Industries Ltd (WIL) has proposed to diversify into software development and exports besides expansion plans in its exiting product line.

According to WIL chairman and managing director C Balasubramanyam, the company has initiated talks with US and Singapore companies for a tie-up to foray into software development and exports.

WIL has earmarked Rs 3.5 crore towards expansion plan in the veterinary drug area. It has plans to launch an aquaculture product called `Gasorb' which deodorizes and purifies the pond water. The company hopes to earn a turnover of Rs 2 crore on this product alone in the next year, he explained.

The company proposes to manufacture and market various enzymes, water sanitizers and disinfectants for poultry industry for which the company is looking for a foreign collaborators to provide technical knowhow, he said. uFor the year 1998-99, the company reported a turnover of Rs 14.17 crore and posted a net profit of Rs 35 lakh. The estimated turnover for the current year would be Rs 17 crore with an earnings of Rs 1.52 per share, he said.
