TVS Suzuki sales up 27 per cent in Nov
Two-wheeler major TVS Suzuki sold 71,657 vehicles in November this year, representing a 27 per cent spurt compared to the sales achieved a year ago. In the first eight months of the current financial year, the company sold 5,39,328 vehicles which represents a 25 per cent growth compared to April-November last fiscal. Company officials here said for the first time TVS Suzuki crossed the two lakh motorcycles mark in sales.

LML posts 8% growth
LML has recorded over 8 per cent sales growth by selling 27,918 scooters against 25,766 vehicles during the same month of the previous year. LML executive director Jayant Bakshi said in a statement that the entire LML range of greener two-wheelers, meeting the year 2000 emission norms, will be available from January.

Artos Breweries to up capacity
Artos Breweries, an associate company of liquor major Mohan Meakins, will expand its installed capacity by two-thirds to 225 lakh litres as part of a rehabilitation scheme for the sick company sanctioned by the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction. The revival scheme also envisages conversion of Rs 13.20 lakh dues of Artos to Mohan Breweries and Distilleries, franchisees of Mohan Meakins in the south, into cumulative non-convertible preference shares in Artos.

Goodyear launches new products
Goodyear India, a leading tyre manufacturer, has launched nine new products for passenger cars and multi-utility vehicles. Neville P Moos, chairman and managing director of Goodyear, said, "After the acquisition of south Asia Tyre Ltd (SATL), and with investments in excess of Rs 300 crore in the last financial year, to enhance the technology and double capacity at our plants, Goodyear is now set to consolidate and enlarge its presence in India."

ONGC achieves Y2K compliance
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has fully prepared itself to meet the Y2K bug and has spent about Rs 20 crore for the purpose, a top company official said. "There were about 800 equipment that were identified to be Y2K-prone, out of which 250 were directly business-related which have to be addressed immediately besides taking care of all the other equipment to tackle the Y2K bug," director technical of ONGC RC Gourh said.

VSP turnover rises to Rs 245 cr
The Vishakapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) has continued its impressive performance by registering a sales turnover of Rs 245 crore in November, 1999, as compared to Rs 220 crore during October, 1999. The company has been awarded an ISO 9002 certificate for its phase-IIIA units last month. The company has achieved a higher production of 2,46,062 tonnes of hot metal, 2,18,365 tonnes of liquid steel and 2,00,187 tonnes of saleable steel.

Bits, BAeHAL team up
Bits India and BAeHAL have joined hands to market and provide solutions for products of the the latter. BAeHAL is the joint venture of British Aerospace and Hindustan Aeronautices Ltd. BAeHAL has products such as Price, a production controlling software, Astra, an aircraft maintenance and logistics package and Smart Card, a medical evaluation system.

MRTPC directive to BPL
BPL Appliances has discontinued its advertisement claiming faster rate of cooking on its gas stoves compared to similar rival products following a stay order issued by Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission (MRTPC). In its application, BPL Appliances stated that it has discontinued the impunged advertisement claiming faster rate of cooking by 40 per cent.

Plastics body elects president
The Organisation of Plastics Processors of India (OPPI) on Wednesday announced the election of VK Taparia of The Supreme Industries as president and Ashok Kumar Goel of Essar Packaging as the vice-president. The organisation was formed in 1984 to promote co-operation among plastics processors and protect their common interests.
