Mumbai, Dec 2: Gold and silver prices closed sharply lower on the bullion market here today.Standard gold fell by Rs 30 at Rs 4,550 per 10 gm. Gold .22 carat was down by Rs 25 at Rs 4,210 per 10 gm. in synmpathy. Prices of gold biscuit (116.50 gm.) closed Rs 200 lower at Rs 53,300 per piece. Physical demand for gold was thin while news of losses in the global market prompted fresh selling by stockists and local bankers here, dealers said. In the overseas market gold eased from $290.40 to $288.85 per ounce.
Meanwhile silver .999 slipped by Rs 35 at Rs 8,095 per kg and silver .916 was down by Rs 20 at Rs 7,940 per kg.
Industrial and seasonal buying for silver was slow as steady supplies of raw silver from local sources as well as weak Delhi and overseas advices put pressure on the local market. In the international market the white metal softened from $5.19 to $5.15 per ounce.
G'nut oil maintains
Groundnut oil ruled steady at the improved level on the oil,oilseeds market here today. Castorseed and its oil remained quiet in the ready delivery but prices recovered some of the recent losses in the forward market.
Groundnut oil remained unchanged at Rs 370 per 10 kg. on demand resistance but tight supplies helped prices to consolidate recent rally, dealers said. In Rajkot prices were subdued at Rs 600/605 per 15 kg. Imported palm oil reacted by a rupee to Rs 292 per 10 kg on weak overseas advices. In the global market palm oil fell by $5 at $375 per tonne for the nearby delivery and at $377.50/380 per tonne for long delivery, it was learnt.
Castor oil finished quiet at Rs 365/377 per 10 kg so was castorseed rady at Rs 1669/1675 per quintal on nominal trading.
In the future section castorseed March delivery bounced back from Rs 1,690 to Rs 1,709 before settling at Rs 1,696 per quintal as lower prices attracted short covering. There was no trading reported in the maturing December delivery, floor sources said.
In the international castor oil future market February delivery looked up by a rupee at Rs 384 per 10 kg. and there was no trading in December delivery.Castorseed February delivery looked firm at Rs 1,674 in Ahmedabad and in Rajkot it was quoted at Rs 1,668.50 per quintal. Fresh inflow of castorseed in Gujarat placed at 20000/25000 bags.
Cotton improves
Cotton market earned some respite from the relentless pressure of bearish trend following reports of CCI buying in Punjab zone.
Arrivals in Punjab zone were comprised of 4000 bales of Bengal Deshi and 11,000 bales of J-34. Bengal Deshi roller-ginned Punjab at Rs 1000-1050 and Harayana at Rs 1025-1030 a maund improved by Rs 5. Rajasthan shed Rs 5 at Rs 1035-1055 to come in line with the other centers.
J-34 saw-ginned at Rs 1305-1370 and cart selected at Rs 1370-1525 were more or less steady. J-34 roller-ginned good average Punjab dipped to Rs 1330-1350 from Rs 1350-1360 but Haryana at Rs 1280-1300 and Rajasthan at Rs 1280-1295 were maintained.
Other cottons ruled steady.
Sugar edges up
Sugar price maintained an improving trend following sustained buying support.M-30 were placed at Rs 1440-1485 as against Rs 1430-1480 and S-30 at Rs 1390-1435 as against Rs 1390-1430 a quintal ex-godown. Ex-octroi checkpost, M-30 rose from Rs 1405-1425 to Rs 1420-1430 and S-30, up by Rs 5, were quoted at Rs 1395-1405.
In tenders, M-30 at Rs 1360-1370 and S-30 at Rs 1340-1350 were mentioned steady.
Yarn listless
Viscose filament yarn and nylons held steady on the yarn market. Demand was better.
Viscose filament yarn bright cones first quality Century Rayon 150dn ruled at Rs 196, 120dn at Rs 205, 100dn at Rs 220 and 75dn at Rs 252 a kg.
Nylon yarn 15/1/0dn Shreelon were placed at Rs 270. Gujnil 20/1/0dn ruled at Rs 250, 30/1/0dn at Rs 310 and 111/24/0dn at Rs 155.
Wheat rules better
Imported milling wheat price ruled better following levy of import duty. Elsewhere, a quietly steady condition continued.
Milling wheat French were quoted higher by Rs 10 at Rs 635-640 a quintal in the wake of higher landed cost following imposition of 50 per cent import duty. However, with the FCI continuing to supply at Rs 725, this will influence any rise in the price of imported material. Deshi milling ruled steady at Rs 768-770.
Among other wheat MP 147 at Rs 875-925 and Sarbati in the range of Rs 950-1300 were unchanged. North Gujarat Sonaklyan and 496 continued to be on offer at Rs 800-825 and at Rs 875-881 respectively. Arrivals were restricted.Rice Perimal new ruled at Rs 950-975 and superior at Rs 1200-1250. Basmati new were traded at Rs 3000-3500.
Among pulses, rajma chitra deshi at Rs 1500 and imported red at Rs 1600 were unchaned. Australian gram ruled at Rs 1300-1350. White peas Canadian were on offer at Rs 841-875 and French at Rs 861. Green peas Rumba/Heart were placed at Rs 1400 and Canadian at Rs 1050.
