Bangalore, Dec 1: Epson India has appointed former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen as the brand ambassador for promoting all Epson products in the country. This is for the first time an information technology products company has named a brand ambassador in India.With the new model of business strategy in place, the company is targeting a marketshare of 25 per cent by March 2000. ``We have a marketshare of 22 per cent in the inkjet printer segment in the country. The company is also planning to introduce laser printers early January,'' Epson India senior country manager Paramjit Singh Puri said.
Sen would travel to the Seiko Epson headquarters in Japan shortly on an orientation visit about the company and its products. Sushmita Sen, as a brand ambassador, would also visit all metros to fuel the sales of Epson products, according to company officials.
``I am glad to work with a company like Seiko Epson with whom I share my ideology and values,'' Sen said here on Tuesday. In order to announce the launch of new products and its ambassador, Epson has conducted a fashion show in Bangalore.
Epson's Puri said the company is recognised worldwide for its excellence in technology and new innovations. ``We wanted to convey this sentiment to India and so we decided to associate ourselves with an icon of excellence,'' he added.
Recently, the company launched a range of products including inkjet category Epson stylus colour model nos 460, 660, 760, 1160 and for high-end users Epson stylus photo 710, scanners perfection 610, perfection 1200 (in three variants) and digital camera photo PC 800.
Epson has three distributors - Wipro, Redington and Godrej Tech Pacific, and 30 authorised service centres in the country. The company, which is adding 12 more services centres by February, has also launched Epson helpline in major cities.
The $10-billion Seiko Epson Corporation is planning to set up a wholly-owned subsidiary in the country. At present, Epson India offers its services and products through a branch office located in the city.
