Calcutta, Dec 1: Adobe Systems India Ltd is aiming at software sales worth Rs 7-8 crore in 1999, according to the company's marketing chief, Sailesh Agarwal.Speaking to The Financial Express here on Wednesday, Agarwal said, "we see 40 per cent year-to-year growth in Adobe products in India." Adobe Systems started operations in India in October 1998. Its products are being marketed in India by Wipro since 1996.
As much as 70 per cent of the sales are to professional publishers and another 20-25 per cent to business publishers. Among the business publishers half are customers of Framemaker, a software documentation package.
Agarwal said, "the business publishing segment is the largest growing market for us. In fact, we are still selling Framemaker's 1997 version. The next version is expected somewhere in mid-2000, and we expect the segment to take off with its introduction."
Agarwal was in Calcutta to attend Apple Yatra, a joint roadshow by Apple and Adobe.
Adobe is now concentrating all its marketing efforts to the new professional layout software, InDesign. "This will be the mother of all layout software. We expect at least two major newspaper houses to opt for this software by early next year."
In fact, Adobe is offering a companion upgrade for users of QuarkXpress and Pagemaker to InDesign. The new package comes for Rs 36,000, while an upgrade is available for Rs 17,000 till December 31, 1999.
