Mumbai, Dec 1: The $18-billion Candian giant Nortel Networks has appointed Datapro as its distributor for India. Nortel provides products for internet-based data, telephony and wireless networking.Besides its Unified Networks, Nortel also owns some of the well-knowns brands in networking such as Accelar, Bay Networks, Inca, Norstar and Passport. The company will launch products and services designed for different networking environments; from small office to large enterprises in the country.
Datapro is establishing a Web-based logistics system to increase its distribution business beginning with Nortel products. The company will link its branches, channel partners and logistics support through the Net. "We are creating an online trading community. The project is so comprehensive that the customers will be able to get a confirmation reply once he places an order," Datapro chief executive for sales and support, KR Venkataraman, said.
Nortel is aiming at ISPs, cable television carriers, long distance, cellular, PCS communications companies and other enterprises to sell the products.
Venkataraman said that Datapro will focus on products on data, Net-related communication and wireless telephony in India. The Rs 150-crore Datapro will deploy a team of 100 resellers for the Nortel products. As per the strategy, the product support will be be provided through vendors, channel partners and distributors.
